History

Pleasant View Community Church was founded on June 9th, 1997, at a Church Organization Meeting that was held at Shoney’s restaurant in Forest City, North Carolina. The following men were present at the meeting; founding pastor Reverend Danny McCain, Ernie Pinkerton, Brian Pinkerton, Robert McDaniels, Tim Pollard and Charlie Lawson.

The majority of the founding members moved to the area of Forest City, North Carolina, from Pike County, Ohio. The men and their families just couldn’t seem to find a church in the area that allowed the freedom in worship that they had grown accustomed to. The Ohioans and some likeminded men from Forest City joined together and purposed to establish a church in which the Spirit could move freely and worship came naturally.

The Church was first named “Oakland Community Church” as it was originally located in a small building on Oakland Road, just south of Spindale, North Carolina. The first service was held on Sunday, July 6, 1997 with 12 in attendance for Sunday School and 14 for the Morning Worship. God blessed the church and the body began growing quickly.

By October of 1998, the growing church body began looking for a place to build a bigger facility. After looking at several plots of land for a building site, the members agreed on and purchased a 7 acre plot of land on Michael Drive just off Doggett Road to the south of Forest City, North Carolina. Due to the location of the property, the Church had to undergo a name change. Names were solicited from the congregation and from those names the top three were chosen and voted on by the church board. The name was changed to Pleasant View Community Church. The new worship center began construction on February 18th, 2000.

The church continued to grow and the decision was made to add a family life center with a gym, a kitchen, and a youth loft. The Family Life Center was completed and dedicated in December of 2005.

Reverend Danny McCain would pastor the church from its inception up until his untimely death on February 26th, 2021, due to complications from COVID-19. The recently appointed Associate Pastor, Phillip Duncan, whom Danny had been mentoring, was then voted in as pastor.

Though much has changed through the years, the original mission and purpose of Pleasant View Community Church remains the same, to be a church for all people.
